Wolverhampton draw bias

Flat 1 mile oval with tight bends, laid with Polytrack since October 2004.

Similar surface to Lingfield, but form does not always transfer successfully due to the different course configurations.

Jockeys naturally adapt to draw bias over time, so we have deliberately focussed on the last 2 years' results - to verify existing opinions and to make the data as current as possible, with cross checking over longer periods.

Percentages are wins to runs, to 06/01/2010:

5fl 20yds - stalls position LOW

Stalls 1 & 3 enjoy a significant advantage, stall 2 used to do better but appears to get squeezed now and hasn't been quite as good for several years. Barring stall 9, those drawn 8 or wider are at a significant disadvantage. The results for stalls 4 & 9 are anomalies which also hold true over the longer term (5 yrs +).

Best stalls: 3 (19.8%), 1 (17.0%)
Worst stalls: 13 (0%), 8 (3.5%), 12 (4.3%), 10 (6.9%), 4 (7.8%)
Neutral stalls: 7 (13.2%), 2 (13.1%), 5 (11.9%), 6 (10.3%), 9 (9.5%) , 11 (9.5%)

Std-slow: avoid stalls 4 & 8, plus 10 and above
Std-fast: avoid stall 4 & 8, plus 11 and above
Slow: no data

5fl 216yds - stalls position LOW

Over the short term stalls 5, 6, 7 & 12 have done best, but comparison with the long term strongly suggests there is little actual bias. The only advice is to avoid horses drawn in stall 10, 11 or 13, with 13 particularly poor (no wins at all in 2009). Stall 12 is borderline - little better over the long term, but consistently good in recent years.

Best stalls: none
Worst stalls: 13 (3.6%), 11 (5.2%), 10 (7.2%)
Neutral stalls: 12

Std-slow: avoid stall 1, plus stall 10 and above
Std-fast: stall 1& 2 have a significant advantage, avoid stalls 12 & 13
Slow: no data

7fl 32yds - stall position HIGH

Stalls 1-8 have a broadly similar chance, Stalls 9-12 are at a disadvantage.

Best stalls: none
Worst stalls: 12 (6.1%), 11 (6.1%), 10 (6.8%), 9 (7.4%)
Neutral stalls: none

Std-slow: avoid stall 12 or higher
Std-fast: avoid stall 8 or higher
Slow: insufficient data
